Advanced Art was a pioneering Finnish synthpop/EBM band from Tampere, active 1985-1995, known for their sharp, dark electronic sound blending synth-pop, EBM, and industrial influences, gaining international cult status via MTV Europe with tracks like “From Nothing to Nothing” before releasing albums on Poko Rekords, leaving a significant mark on Finland’s electronic underground. The core creative partnership was Jana (vocals, lyrics) and Vince (music, production), who evolved from early cassette demos to their seminal albums Product (1993) and Force (1994).
Founded: October 13, 1985, in Tampere by Pasi “Jana” Janhunen, Petri “Pete” Huttunen, and Petja “Vince” Valasvaara. Began with minimal synth and cassette releases, influenced by bands like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, and Front 242. The band was deeply involved in organizing events, running clubs, and hosting some of Finland’s first warehouse parties, building a local scene.
After demos, they released split 7-inch singles with Finnish goth band Two Witches.
Considered pioneers of Finnish electronic music, shaping the country’s dark electronic underground. Their work is celebrated on retrospective releases, including the 2015/2025 compilation Forced Product, marking their 30th/40th anniversary.
