Information Society (InSoc) is an American synthpop band formed in Minneapolis in 1982, known for blending electronic, new wave, and freestyle with hits like “What’s on Your Mind (Pure Energy)” and “Running”, featuring core members Kurt Harland, Paul Robb, and James Cassidy, achieving major success in the late ’80s with their iconic “Pure Energy” sample and “Star Trek” references, and later reuniting after hiatuses for new music, maintaining their influential status in electronic pop. Formed in St. Paul, Minnesota, by friends Kurt Harland, James Cassidy, and Paul Robb, inspired by European electronic acts like Kraftwerk. Initially explored avant-garde electronic music, releasing indie albums like Creatures of Influence. Their single “Running” became a massive club hit, particularly in NYC’s Latino clubs, putting them on the map.
