Rupesh Cartel is a Swedish synthpop duo known for their melodic, well-produced electronic music. Formed in Stockholm, the band is comprised of Viktor Ginner (songwriting, vocals, programming) and Daniel Bergdahl (production, programming).
The band emerged in the early 2000s, initially operating under the name Barque before rebranding as Rupesh Cartel. Their debut full-length album, Mainland, was released in 2005 through the American label A Different Drum. Following their debut, they released The Disco and the What Not in 2007 and Anchor Baby in 2009. During this period, Viktor Ginner also collaborated with other artists, including providing electronics for Firefox AK. After a decade-long hiatus from major releases, the duo returned in 2020 with the Lodestar EP, followed by the Embers EP in 2021. In February 2025, they signed with Progress Productions and released their fourth studio album, Residual Light, on May 2, 2025. Residual Light was recorded using unconventional methods, including tracking vocals in a van parked by a Swedish lake, resulting in a more introspective and atmospheric sound than their earlier club-oriented work.
